Text is design

4 April 2025

Many designers for some reason ignore that copy is a huge, probably the most important part of any design. Just try to design something without writing anything!

Yet this remains a common practice to give text the lowest priority and prepare something with 'temporary' copy. That temporariness gets ignored and, finally, makes it to production because everybody got used to it. Big mistake lies in a fact that temporary copy equals unfinished design. Why there were enough time to design forms, buttons, scenarios, but no time or brainpower for copy? How is that?

Given all that, every designer should know how to work with text. How to format it, what to write, how to pass the message across to the user. You can differentiate inexperienced designers from veterans by looking at how they work with text.
